Portfolio Administration provides operational investment support to the Portfolio Managers within SSgA.  The team support both active and passive strategies for both segregated and pooled mandates, including Exchange Traded Funds.  The function is split by asset class.

Functions of the Team

The Portfolio Administration team has oversight of portfolios from an operational point of view.  The function is expected to work with a high level of accuracy to deliver high quality and timely support to the business.

Daily functions of Portfolio Administration would include but not be limited to:



  • Reconciliations. Accounting oversight.


  • Cash Forecasting. Overdraft and Exposure monitoring.


  • Verification of Fund Valuations and anti-dilution adjustments.


  • OTC valuation and collateral management.


  • Performance calculation, preliminary review and query resolution


  • Investigating and resolving queries from Clients, Portfolio Managers and other partners

Requirements of the Role



  • Effectively lead the function with support/oversight from a senior manager.


  • Responsible for each team's daily operational deliverables and service standards.


  • Demonstrate capability to adopt a ‘hands on’ approach when required.


  • Ensure control and compliance with general operational risk management standards and regulatory requirements.


  • Enhance our current processes and procedures through positive challenge and identification of improvement and global alignment opportunities.


  • Independently manage projects both locally and in collaboration with global peers.


  • Monitor and maintain a high performing team. Complete appraisals and support the performance and ongoing development of individuals.


  • Act as a positive role model within the function and within the organization



Education and Experience



  • Operations management experience gained from an investment manager, investment bank, hedge fund, prime broker, custodian or fund administrator.


  • Career path demonstrating varied experience of some of the different functions within Operations.


  • Strong undergraduate degree with a financial or analytical discipline preferred.


  • Professional industry qualifications are also an advantage.


  • You have good understanding of all major asset classes and investment structures, investment markets and the settlement of securities.


  • Experience of Performance Measurement and Attribution an advantage.


  • Key product experience desirable: Developed and Emerging Market Government Bonds, Convertibles and Corporates, Equities, FX spot and forwards, Exchange Traded Futures and Options, Repurchase Agreement. ETF
