Own the payroll and compensation strategy for a well-known global retail brand across Australia and New Zealand, working closely with HR and Finance leadership. This is a genuine leadership role with real scope to shape vendor management, systems, and process improvement. Based in Melbourne's inner suburbs, our client offers a flexible hybrid working model.
The Role
You'll take ownership of payroll accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement across the business. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the outsourced payroll vendor relationship, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant fortnightly and monthly payrolls across Australia and New Zealand
- Owning all payroll statutory and regulatory obligations, including STP reporting, superannuation/KiwiSaver, PAYG/tax filings, and audit support
- Validating and maintaining payroll-related employee data, reconciling results and investigating variances
- Partnering with HR and Finance on compensation budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
- Acting as the go-to payroll systems expert
- Supporting managers and HR through payroll outcomes for on boarding, role changes, and terminations
- Reviewing rosters, hours, overtime, and allowances to identify cost leakage and compliance risks
- Staying ahead of changes to legislation, awards, EBAs, tax, and superannuation
- Supporting annual performance review process administration
About You
- Experience in a payroll leadership or management role, ideally spanning Australia and New Zealand
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive, flexible working style suited to a fast-paced retail environment
- Retail industry experience highly regarded but not essential
