Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group's reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Senior Legal Counsel.

Principal responsibilities
  • Providing legal advice to Commercial Banking Business on legal issues arising out of their activities and growth initiatives in Hong Kong, including advising on conducting financial services in a digital environment
  • Supporting the Regional Head of Commercial Banking Legal, including sharing best practices with Commercial Banking lawyers in the Asia Pacific region
  • Advising senior management in Legal and businesses on legal risks and reputational risks, in particular acting as risk manager in identifying and managing legal risks and reputational risks in Commercial Banking
  • Liaising and collaborating with Group, Regional Legal and lawyers in the team as required in relation to the Commercial Banking businesses in Asia Pacific
  • Implementing Group Legal's and Asia Pacific Regional General Counsel strategic plan and objectives, including effective management of legal costs and external law firms and building a sustainable and effective legal team

  • Qualified Lawyer
  • Fluent English speaking and writing
  • Chinese writing and Cantonese speaking desirable
  • Solid corporate experience and a good working knowledge of the laws impacting the provision of financial services and products
  • Ability to lead projects
  • Ability to work independently with the business
  • Strong ability to adapt and prioritize
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills
  • Lateral thinking/problem solving skills
