The Head of Internal Audit will lead the Internal Audit Function with responsibility and accountability for delivering independent assurance to the Board.

The Head of Internal Audit will be accountable for the Internal Audit function, reporting to management on the adequacy and effectiveness of the internal controls, under the guidance and direction of the Audit Committee.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the Internal Audit Charters and professional audit standards and codes of ethics
  • Provide advice on the overall adequacy and effectiveness of each respective organisation's arrangements for governance, risk management and control through the development and execution of risk-based Internal Audit Plans, and make recommendations that add value and assist management and Boards in achieving their objectives
  • Develop and maintain an overall audit strategy, aligned to the risk profiles of the organisation, and designed to meet the assurance needs of the individual Boards and Audit Committees in a focused and cost effective manner
  • Ensure appropriate controls exist for the business to continue to meet regulatory requirements
  • Share information co-ordinate activities and work collaboratively with other internal and external providers of assurance to ensure an effective assurance framework

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and direct the Internal Audit team ensuring that the reputation and integrity of the company is maintained at all times.
  • Develop and execute risk based annual work-plan proposals to the company, individual Boards and Audit Committees for their agreement, in accordance with the Core Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that assurance is delivered against agreed Audit Plans using structured audit methodologies in accordance with CIIA standards.
  • Build and maintain close and constructive working relationships with all key senior stakeholders. Acting in an advisory capacity to help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls and business processes
  • Keep abreast of new developments affecting the payments industry activities
  • Discharging all internal control activities specifically assigned to the Internal Audit function as they relate to the Core Responsibilities, ensuring the CIIA Standards and Guidelines for Internal Auditing are followed, and that all Internal Audit staff adheres to the Code of Ethics

Required Skills

  • Strong background and knowledge of Banking / Payments Industry
  • Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors CMIIA / PIIA qualification or equivalent
  • Strong internal audit experience with the personal impact, strategic capability and influencing skills to play a prominent role in provision of assurance to the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Board and Audit Committees
  • A successful track record of influencing, giving professional advice, and building effective and productive working relationships with Managing Directors, senior managers, those engaged in managing risks and other assurance providers
