KPMG’s Global Strategy Group (GSG) is looking at hiring a number of exceptional candidates, across grades, to join their London and Bristol offices.  The team is looking to attract professional, talented individuals who have a passion for identifying and creating innovative solutions for clients. 

 

The role of GSG is to work with C-level Executives to identify, structure and solve their most critical strategic issues across the economic and transaction cycles.  As part of a fast-paced and dynamic group, our consultants offer strategic advice on financial, business and operating models to corporate, public sector and private equity clients.  Our consultants also receive a superior level of training and coaching to enable them to meet the needs of our global client base.

GSG’s Aerospace & Defence team work with Government and Industry on the biggest, most complex, and pressing critical strategic issues across the economic and transaction cycles. We work with senior clients to deliver strategic and commercial advice on financial, business and operating models to the Ministry of Defence, National Security agencies and large Defence contractors. Most work is undertaken in multidisciplinary teams, and there will be opportunities to work across both public and private sectors.

 

Roles and responsibilities

 

To be a successful Manager within GSG, applicants will be expected to:
• Establish role as day to day / key client contact on engagements
• Build strong, trusted adviser relationships with client counterparts
• Identify on-sell and cross-sell opportunities
• Take day to day responsibility for smaller projects and manage significant elements of larger engagements
• Co-ordinate the preparation of deliverables that span multiple workstreams. Develop the answers and challenges to the likely questions and responses of the client
• Handle ambiguity and changing client demands effectively
• Demonstrate deep expertise and an ability to generate insights in a chosen sector
• Build and maintain a strong internal and external network
• Ensure the Firm’s risk management frameworks are adhered to
• Demonstrate high levels of drive, ambition and the ability to lead work at high levels of intensity
• Coach others in how to identify potential risks before they occur, take preventative measures to stop them from occurring, and what to do if they occur
• Identify, design and lead critical practice development initiatives, coordinating other members of the team

Experience & Background

 

Applicants will need to display the following:

• Significant experience of working for a strategy house, big 4 firm, public-sector organisation or central strategy / corporate development team of a large company
• Strong understanding of the value drivers within the Aerospace & Defence sector
• Ability to manage large teams or significant parts of complex projects or programmes in the Aerospace & Defence sector
• Experience of developing and preparing business development pitches in the Aerospace & Defence sector
• Ability to work effectively, influence and challenge senior people (client and internal), in the Aerospace & Defence sector, whilst working on a project or business development initiative

 

Qualifications & Skills

 

To succeed in this demanding role an applicant will need to demonstrate the following:

• A first class or 2.1 degree from a leading institution
• Evidence of strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
• Structured thinking skills combined with creativity
• Strong knowledge of the Aerospace & Defence sector with the ability to talk credibly to client counterparts on the key issues, technological changes and strategic considerations facing the industry
• Ability to review and assess large volumes of technical data and distil the key strategic insights
• Ability to evaluate complex challenges and deliver insightful recommendations that can be practically executed
• Strong numerical capabilities combined with sound commercial acumen
• Ability to build complex financial models that support our recommendations to clients
• Excellent English written and oral communication skills
• Other language skills would be a strong bonus

 

Candidates should have, or be prepared to obtain, security vetting to at least UK Security Clearance (SC) level
