About the opportunity:

The Open Banking & API Product Development Manager is a newly created product development role within the Channel Services product management team in the EMEA Treasury and Trade Solutions business, and represents an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to shape the scope and remit of the role to fit the business need as it continues to evolve. This position will be instrumental in establishing a framework for the definition and coordination of key strategic investment priorities in the area of Open Banking and API channels, ensuring optimised execution, and successful commercialisation to clients.

The role will be responsible for the product life cycle of products and services created under this remit, encompassing problem analysis and requirements definition, through solution design, development, launch and commercialisation, taking into account funding, resourcing, integration and dependencies across the various TTS product lines and functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with key partners to develop an overall API strategy for Citi's TTS business, with particular emphasis on Open Banking requirements and opportunities, understanding competitive landscape, and prioritising projects based on client impact
  • Implement the API strategy by defining new API channel product capabilities and enhancements to meet client-driven needs, leverage market opportunities, counter competitive threats, and comply with regulatory requirements
  • Create a governance structure to prioritise and track the portfolio of Open Banking & API channel developments, engaging key stakeholders, including global and EMEA cluster Channels partners, to align priorities, and agree tasks necessary for the successful development and deployment of project deliverables
  • Lead engagement with Business Analysis and Technology teams to create business requirements documentation to feed into the development process
  • Co-ordinate readiness and deployment of new developments with functional partners in Sales/Account Management , Implementations, Customer Service, Operations, Market Management, Marketing, Legal, Risk and Compliance
  • Prepare regular updates regarding the progress of development deliverables to regional and global management committees, and other product and project specific committees
  • Contribute to and support the creation of client-facing and internal collateral to explain the benefits of new products and enhancements
  • Become an ambassador of API driven solutions and Open Banking opportunities, using them as examples to support a client experience led innovation culture in the TTS business



  • Extensive  years in Product Development or Product Management roles
  • Significant experience of defining, prototyping and commercializing new products and client-driven product enhancements, ideally in an API (application programming interface)-oriented product set
  • Track record of successful collaboration with clients and/or external organization partners
  • Success implementing regulatory requirements, and extending these into opportunities for competitive advantage
  • Proven close working collaboration with technology development teams, ideally using agile development methods, demonstrating strong ability to document and present business requirements to technology developers, and to review technology design documents, including messaging formats and system architecture flows
  • Working knowledge of messaging and API specifications, ideally industry-standard formats such as: SWIFT, ISO 20022 XML, Berlin Group NextGenPSD2, UK OBIE
  • Assured leadership skills interacting with cross-functional team, ideally in an internally operating company
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills for communicating with seniors, business partners and clients - in particular being able to expain the benefits of API-based services to a non-technical audience
  • Team player with ability to evidence leadership and build consensus while working within a matrix organization
  • Ability to multitask and influence key stakeholders and functional partners and manage uncertainty
  • Strong conceptual and analytical thinking
  • Strong self-starter - can work independently with minimal supervision
