Your role as an Agile Delivery Manager is to enable the work, and not impose how it's done.
Senior Agile Delivery Manager: up to £64,656 per annum, circa 27% pension contribution from DWP, flexible working hours and work life balance so you can work in a way that works for you

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

What's your favourite agile approach? Scrum, Kanban, Lean or something else?

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We're working on a once-in-a-generation of products and services used by millions of people every day.

We're looking for Senior Agile Delivery Managers to empower our multi-disciplinary digital teams to deliver some of the largest technology projects in Europe.

Delivery. Work. People: A Day in the life of an Senior Agile Delivery Manager

Day to day, you'll act as both servant and leader to your team. You'll guard their time, and protect their ability to deliver. You're also a senior voice in our practice and you'll help grow capability and confidence in our brilliant Delivery community.

A technical problem arises that needs a solution. As the delivery manager you frame the work as a learning problem for your team. It is not an execution problem - you know that simply telling your team to execute a prescribed solution takes away the creative process involved in building quality services with real life outcomes. It separates purpose and execution.

You know how to get your team to recognise that it's important to deliver value early and to learn and adapt to our citizens evolving needs in a complex world.

You foster an environment of continuous validation with Agile standards of respect, openness, and courage. You create an environment of psychological safety for your multi-disciplinary team.

You ask lots of questions. You're a role model for curiosity, and the cycle of inspection and adaptation. Your teams quickly adopt a habit and a culture of learning about user outcomes and seeking quick feedback.

Your role as an Agile Delivery Manager is to enable the work, and not impose how it's done.

You mitigate against micro-management. You deliver projects by giving motivated and skilled individuals the trust, autonomy and conditions to do their thing.

You make the work visible to stakeholders. You will arrange demos from the user researchers, designers and developers. You give your team the chance to share progress and their work to date, so we can get feedback, consider solutions and suggestions long before the story reaches production.

And there is so much more.

We want to empower you to create your own career story and journey. Whether you think you're a scrum master, a delivery manager, an agile coach, or something else, you'll use your creativity, experience and expertise to solve your team's problems, minimise noise and enable smooth running.

What skills knowledge and experience are we looking for?

  • Experience of delivering software in an agile environment in multiple phases
  • Promoting a culture of psychological safety in teams, managing team dynamics. Actively contribute to enabling teams to work in a better way
  • The ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner at all levels
  • Having a proactive approach to learning and development of yourself and others

Details. Wages. Perks.

You'll join our teams in your choice of either Blackpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, London or Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

We also all have the tech and tools we need to enable our people to work flexibly, and many of us are working remotely at the moment due to COVID-19.

We offer a competitive salary up to £64,656 and a brilliant civil service pension, and a generous leave package starting at 26 days (25 days annual leave plus a day for the Queen's Birthday).

We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • Flexible working, flexi hours and flexi days off
  • Family friendly policies
  • Volunteering and charitable giving
  • Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more
  • Interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket, so it's even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference
  • Sports and social activities
  • Learning and development, including coaching, mentoring, qualifications and accreditation, career progression opportunities and lots more.
