We are looking for a strong senior leader in the role of Sr. Director Customer Application Security which includes direct responsibility for, or oversight of the following:

  • Align with various teams on Product, Development, and Risk/Fraud to ensure SVB has strong Customer Application Security.
  • Ensure the Target Architecture of Customer Authentication and related technologies and processes
  • Work with the product and development teams during product build process with Agile development framework and desired outcomes
  • Help define architecture design for a "Cloud First, Data Once" technology strategy as it relates to Business Resumption capabilities and Technology resiliency capabilities
  • Partner with IT leaders, Risk leaders and Security team to ensure SVB has full capability of fully Available and Resilient applications/systems to run our businesses.
  • Accountable to Business Continuity Team to support flows and dependencies of key business applications and ensure adherence to BU level Business Continuity Plans
  • Engage and influence senior SVB technology architects, engineer, and security practitioners on technical topics and SVB Architectural Strategy as it relates to "end to end" view of Business Continuity as it relates to Customer Applications
  • Actively participate and model SVB's Lean Architectural Practices
  • Partner with senior engineering leaders and business leaders to influence organizational and structural change

Lead through ambiguity and conflict make tough calls to eventually achieve desired outcomes

Specific Details in supporting Business Continuity Program:

Application Security Architect will be initial contact for items related to the ITDR side in the context of disaster recovery which include data centers, infrastructure and applications. BCM has direct governance oversight on ensuring that our IT partners develop, maintain and exercise ITDR plans and this role will support that function in terms of working with IT to ensure they can meet these requirements.

  • Supporting IT in the strategy, vision and deployment of infrastructure and applications to ensure overall resiliency and ITDR requirements can be achieved
  • Supporting IT in the development of the technical impact analysis (TIA) for applications to ensure correct criticality and RTOs are achieved
  • Support major data center DR exercises in the context of application resiliency and best approach to validate ITDR requirements
  • Supporting IT and BCM with the reconciliation of application and business process criticality and RTOs/RPOs
  • Validation of ITDR plans in terms of completeness, quality and other business continuity requirements

Broader Technical Requirements :

The Sr. Director Customer Application leads the following areas which require a working, peripheral knowledge to provide direction, leadership, and aggregation of their deliverables into a cohesive enterprise/solutions architecture. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:

Business Architecture

  • Cultivate relationships with business stakeholders
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of strategic business plans
  • Develop and maintain current and future state business architecture

Information System & Technology Architecture

  • Understanding implementation of end-to-end integrated systems

  • Deliver architectural initiatives that drive revenue and improve efficiency in line with business strategy

  • Develop and maintain current and planned state architectural blueprints along with an aspirational architectural road map for the enterprise

  • Develop architectural metrics and reports for the executive team, business and IT management

    Architectural Governance

  • Contribute, communicate and deploy Enterprise Architecture Governance processes

  • Contribute and communicate enterprise technology standards and policies

  • Review new and existing program/project architecture for compliance with IT standards, policies and architectural plans

  • Ensure that project documentation captures significant architectural decisions and that architectural governance is a fair, consistent and transparent process

  • Identify architectural risks and propose alternatives and solutions

    Architecture Processes & Tools

  • Support, communicate and help deploy Enterprise Architecture processes


  • 15 + years of progressive technology leadership experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in Business, Information and System Architectures

  • Financial Services industry experience preferred

  • Extensive Infrastructure, Platform, and Software as a service architectural experience

  • Proven success creating business-enabling three (3) year technology roadmaps

  • Experience architecting scalable technology solutions that adjust to growing business needs

  • Strong experience in Agile software development framework

  • Strong knowledge of Authentication technology and proven commercial solutions in market

  • Strong knowledge of online Fraud issues and ways to mitigate those risks

  • Strong understanding of multi-channel Authentication and Fraud prevention

  • Outstanding collaboration, strong influencing, problem-solving and negotiation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively establish strong relationships with executives, senior leaders, and key business partners to drive change agendas

  • Proven strategic thinking skills to solve enterprise and business challenges

  • Drive the enterprise architecture strategy, blueprint and roadmaps to meet evolving demands

  • Experience leading through influence in a large, matrixed, global environment

  • Prior people management responsibilities with senior level team members as direct reports
