The Role: Associate Director, Commodities Product Management
The Location: 55 Water Street New York, NY
The Impact: The Associate Director, Commodities is responsible for supporting the Head of Commodities in achieving the goal of ensuring the commercial success of commodity indices.
Key Roles & Responsibilities :
- Assist the Commodity product manager in the following: channel and pricing policy, product design and delivery, and sales and marketing strategy, for all commodity and real asset indices.
- Interface with other groups at S&P in conjunction with the Commodity product manager to cooperatively develop and commercialize commodity and real asset indices
- Strategy, custom, index production, development, management, IT, media marketing, research etc.
- Work with Operations to ensure that S&P meets launch deadlines and on-going service levels (timeliness, accuracy, reliability) required for the success of the commodity business, based on customer requirements.
- Work with Sales, Marketing, and Channel teams to support all commodity and real asset indices
- Marketing and sales planning
- Author and vet materials as needed
- Support of sales efforts via technical expertise, higher level discussions, industry conferences etc
- Work with Product Development/Research and Design to source, vet and commercialize new product ideas from the market place and existing clients.
Functional and Business Knowledge :
- 5 years plus of product development/management experience in any of the following settings: investment banking, asset management, brokerage, consulting, a Big 4 firm, or index firm.
- 2 years plus of commodity or real asset experience is desirable, either in indexing, investing, trading, analysis, data, or portfolio management.
- Actual operating knowledge of specific commodity and real asset indices is desirable.
- Must possess strong conceptualizing and logic skills; quantitative analysis skills essential.
- Must be comfortable in a sales-like environment and be able to effectively communicate with third parties including clients, alliance partners, vendors and others.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as part of a team; can effectively influence others and gain their consensus when needed.
- Ability to liaise with the technical group and understand a product's technical aspects
- Demonstrated market research, business plan writing, competitive intelligence, and information gathering skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle steep learning curves; very comfortable dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty.
- Demonstrated ability to be resourceful; able to get things done with limited resources under tight time frames.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel (Pivot tables, v-lookup functions)
- Works well independently and in a team environment
- BA/BS in Finance, Economics or Accounting preferred
