Software Engineer - Internal Tools - Austin

Software Engineer - Internal Tools

You will own, maintain, and enhance the systems that make up Broadway's internal infrastructure. Our philosophy is that our internal systems should use the same state-of-the-art technology that our products are built on: all of this infrastructure runs on the Toc, our core platform for scalable high-performance distributed computing. You will have the opportunity to work with Broadway employees in charge of finance, HR, project management, sales, and more to build the systems that help us to run Broadway's business. You will gain valuable insight into the business, working with people at every level of the company.

This job requires you to be a self-starter - guidance is always available, but the day-to-day work and project timelines are largely self-managed. You will be expected to be a leader in the company; stakeholders from different areas with different levels of technical experience will look to you for the technical expertise to improve the company's internal workflows.

  • Develop new systems to enable Broadway's internal teams to do their work more effectively and efficiently.
  • Maintain and improve existing systems that are built on a variety of different technology stacks.
  • Work with management to develop requirements that maximize the power of internal tools while keeping development and maintenance costs reasonable.
  • Collaborate with your peers and internal customers to understand the big picture and use that understanding to design new solutions that enhance their workflows.
  • 5+ years experience developing enterprise level software.
  • Some experience with Linux and Windows system administration.
  • Communication skills to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies as needed.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Unrelenting commitment to quality and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; Masters preferred.
  • Extensive experience with Python.
  • Experience with JavaScript and/or TypeScript, and at least some familiarity with both. Knowledge of Vue, React and/or Angular would be a plus.
  • Experience with HTML and CSS.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • General experience with system administration tools.
  • An in-depth knowledge of object oriented programming.
  • Some formal training in communication or leadership would be a plus.
