Citadel Securities rescued a dispossessed marketer for its equity sales team

To paraphrase Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind, there is more good hiring to be done when a hedge fund fails than when one succeeds. The latest blockade runner, on the buy-side at least, is Citadel Securities.

Brant Duber joined Citadel Securities’ franchise sales team in New York two weeks ago. Duber joined the firm from hedge fund Eminence Capital, the $7bn hedge fund founded and run by Ricky Sandler, where he was director of marketing. Eminence Capital was wound up earlier this year by Sandler due to a sustained period of “underperformance and rising structural challenges”, Business Times reported.

Before Eminence Capital, which he joined in 2023, Duber spent 15 years in Goldman Sachs’ equities team. He was made a managing director in its class of 2021 promotions.

Eminence Capital’s former employees have been dispersed into many corners of the financial services industry. Luke Brzozowski, for example, was a consumer staples portfolio manager at the firm; he’s since gone to Rokos. Nicholas Freymuth, a quantitative developer at the defunct firm, became CTO of $35bn long-only fund Eagle Capital Management.

As far as we can tell, Duber is the only one who has left for Citadel or Citadel Securities. Neither he nor Citadel Securities responded to a request for comment.
