Morgan Stanley went on a summer hiring spree for its European credit trading team

Summer is over and Morgan Stanley's London credit trading team seems plumper than it was previously.

The US bank is understood to have added at least seven people to its European credit team since July, many in the mid-ranks.

The new recruits include Jessie Murrall, a former vice president (VP) at RBC Capital Markets in London, who's joined the European investment grade business led by Elizabeth Jeong. They also include Nick Scott, an executive director in credit sales who began his career at Morgan Stanley as an associate in leveraged credit trading, and who's returned after a 17 year hiatus at the bank. Scott was most recently at Aurel BGC.

The other summer recruits included Jonathan Soares from Citi, Rishad Ahmed from Enzo Asset Management, Marina Alvarez from JPMorgan, Roko Markesic from DWS and Andre Zucher from MFS Investment Management.  Alvarez is in sales.

Alongside the hires, Morgan Stanley has also shuffled people internally. Annamaria Palmieri moved into European CDS trading in August after working in Morgan Stanley's equity derivatives business. Yiyi Dong in high yield and investment grade analytics was appointed to lead high yield credit trading in Europe.

Morgan Stanley declined to comment on the changes. The US bank's global credit business is run by Rehan Latif, who joined the bank 22 years ago.

Under Latif, Morgan Stanley has been creating an integrated credit trading platform and investing in technology and infrastructure and people after taking an early view that the market was heading for increased electronification. This has coincided with various senior departures in recent years. However, there have also been significant arrivals, including that of Pauline Doutriaux from SocGen in 2022. Doutriaux is thought to have helped develop the bank's new algorithmically-integrated model in which traders, quants and technologists work together.

While there have been summer arrivals, there have also been summer exits.  Jon Stead, Morgan Stanley's head of high yield trading, trod the path to Jain Global in August. Diego Grandi, a VP in leveraged loan trading, went to King Street in September.
