Gokay Gecili joined Nomura this month as a managing director in CEEMEA FX and rates trading. Gokay was previously to be found at Barclays, where he worked for nine years and was made a managing director (MD) in 2022. It's understood that he worked on Barclays' Turkish rates trading desk under Tunk Buyuksolak.

Neither Gecili nor Nomura responded to a request to comment on his arrival. Gecili's appearance follows the disappearance of at least nine people from Nomura's FX team, mostly in the second half of 2024 and early 2025.

Those exits included: Radwan El Chab, Sarah Sparke, Finlay Hind, Ashvin Parkash, Gunnar Tyler-Henning, Joe Franklin, Neil Gear, Saad Mjabber and David Thursfield.

Kevin Connors, Nomura's popular former global head of FX also left last September. His exit seems to have unleashed the wave of departures.  Connors joined JB Drax as head of business development in March 2025.

It's been a difficult year for Turkish Lira traders. The currency fell to a record low against the dollar in March following the arrest of the Istanbul mayor, President Tayyip Erdogan's main political rival. Traders who were poorly positioned lost money; it's not clear whether this affected Gecili at Barclays.
